Rentcafe.com recently published an article mapping the most expensive zip codes for renters across the United States for 2017. They analyzed apartment rent averages for 15 million apartment units in 125 US markets, providing a handy map that helps you get a better perspective on the nation’s most expensive (and most affordable) zip codes. The study uses the actual rent and not the asking price.
- Located in Boston’s Prudential neighborhood, ZIP code 02199 covers mostly renter households (96% of the housing units are renter occupied). If you want to live here, you have to literally “earn” it. The average household income is $195,631, twice as much as Boston‘s metro.
- New York boasts the highest apartment rents in the country, taking 16 out of the top 20 spots. The most expensive ZIP code is Battery Park City’s 10282 with an exorbitant average rent ($5,924).
